STEP to celebrate second anniversary with week of activities

Basseterre, St. KittsJanuary 30, 2019 (S.T.E.P.) — Government agency, the Skills Training Empowerment Programme (STEP), which was launched in February 2017 as a new model to replace the People Employment Programme (PEP) will be celebrating its second anniversary with a week of activities from February 9 to 16.

The celebrations, which will be observed under the theme ‘Showcasing skills, Empowering people for life’, will be launched by Prime Minister, and Minister with responsibility for STEP, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris via a radio broadcast on Sunday February 10. Staff, field supervisors and all trainees of STEP will attend a worship service on the same day at the Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Bourryeau at 10:00 am.

HIGH COMMAND ADDRESSES ERRONEOUS STATEMENTS IN MISLEADING ARTICLE

The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force is an organization with procedures and
processes like any other professional organisation. Internal matters are dealt with using protocols
which are usually documented in a policy paper. The same is true as it pertains to transfers
within the Police Force. These are not only routine, but are executed using the Provisional
Transfer Policy Guideline of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force. This is why it is
with deep dismay that the High Command of the Police Force learned of an article that casts
aspersions on the integrity of the transfer process and goes as far as to make erroneous claims to
achieve this malicious end. Additionally, the High Command places on record that there is no
investigation currently underway into money laundering allegations involving top government
officials as stated in the misleading article.

SEVERAL NATIONAL SECURITY AGENCIES TO BENEFIT FROM CONSTRUCTION OF NEW SANDY POINT POLICE STATION

Basseterre, St. Kitts, January 29, 2019 (RSCNPF): The construction of a new Police Station in Sandy Point will not only benefit the Police, but other agencies are set to gain from the facility as well.

Giving an overview of the facility at the recently-held ground-breaking ceremony, Director of the Public Works Department, Cromwell Williams, explained that it would house the Police, the Fire and Rescue Services and the Customs Department, along with a Magistrate Court.

POLICE RECRUITS ENCOURAGED TO FORGE MEANINGFUL COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIPS
Basseterre, St. Kitts, January 29, 2019 (SKNIS): The value of positive and meaningful engagement between law enforcement and the community was stressed to the men and women of Course 43 as they start their training to become full-fledged officers in the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, Osmond Petty, highlighted this as he addressed the 34 recruits on Monday, January 28, 2019, at a ceremony to mark the launch of the new training class. He quoted some findings of the May 2015 Final Report on “The President’s Task Force on 21stCentury Policing” that was done in the United States and adapted them to local circumstances.
