on the Occasion of the Opening Ceremony

for the 16th Annual Summer Safety Program

July 16th, 2018

 

 Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen, Girls and Boys, it is my great honour and privilege as your Prime Minister and Minister of National Security to be with you this morning at the Opening Ceremony of the 16th Annual Summer Safety Program.

I am delighted to address you all, particularly the approximately 300 boys and girls from ages five to 12 years old who this week will receive important training covering Fire Safety, Water Safety, Traffic Safety, Disaster Preparedness, and Crime and Violence. These boys and girls are representing 18 schools located across the length and breadth of St. Kitts.

Last week, roughly 100 of their peers from eight schools in Nevis participated in the Annual Summer Safety Program held at the Jessup’s Community Centre. Nevis’ Annual Summer Safety Program celebrates 15 years this year, as it started one year after St. Kitts’ own.

POST MORTEM PERFORMED ON BODY OF TAU JOHNSON

 Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 17, 2018 (RSCNPF): Forensic Pathologist, Dr. Valery Alexandrov, performed an autopsy on the body of 20-year-old Tau Johnson on Tuesday, July 17.

Dr. Alexandrov concluded that his death was as a result of acute internal blood loss due to a ruptured aorta sustained in a vehicular accident. Johnson was involved in a fatal accident on July 07, 2018 along Wellington Road.

 The Police High Command recently launched a high-level investigation into Johnson’s death that occurred during a Police chase.

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, July 17, 2018 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis took steps on Friday, July 13, to further strengthen its proactive cooperation on tax matters through the passage of three amendments to the Common Reporting Standard (Automatic Exchange of Financial Account Information) (Amendment) Bill, 2018, in the National Assembly.
