TROPICAL ADVISORY #8 (TS DORIAN)
TROPICAL CYCLONE INFORMATION STATEMENT
ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA METEOROLOGICAL SERVICES
5:00 PM ECT TUE, AUG 27, 2019
THIS IS FOR THE LEEWARD ISLANDS AND BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS
AT 5:00 PM ECT (2100 UTC), DATA FROM THE GUADELOUPE RADAR
INDICATE THAT THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM DORIAN WAS
LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 15.3 NORTH, LONGITUDE 62.5 WEST OR
ABOUT 139 MILES SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF ST. KITTS & NEVIS WITH
MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS OF 50 MPH.
DORIAN CONTINUES TO MOVE TOWARDS THE WEST-NORTHWEST
NEAR 13MPH (20 KM/H) AND THIS MOTION IS EXPECTED TO
CONTINUE THROUGH TONIGHT, FOLLOWED BY A TURN TOWARD
THE NORTHWEST ON WEDNESDAY.
THE LATEST FORECAST TRACK SUGGESTS THAT THE CENTER OF
DORIAN WILL MOVE ACROSS THE NORTHEASTERN CARIBBEAN SEA
TONIGHT.
DORIAN IS FORECAST TO PASS A SAFE DISTANCE TO THE
SOUTHWEST OF THE LEEWARD ISLANDS TONIGHT AND THE BRITISH
VIRGIN ISLANDS ON WEDNESDAY; THEREFORE, NO SIGNIFICANT
IMPACTS ARE EXPECTED ACROSS THESE ISLANDS. IT SHOULD BE
NOTED, HOWEVER, THAT ANY SIGNIFICANT SHIFT TO THE NORTH
COULD BRING DORIAN CLOSER TO THE BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS;
HENCE, RESIDENTS IN THESE ISLANDS ARE ADVISED TO CLOSELY
MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF THIS SYSTEM AND BE PREPARED TO
ACT IF NECESSARY.
OUTER RAINBANDS ASSOCIATED WITH DORIAN COULD STILL
PRODUCE RAINFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF UP TO 1 INCH ACROSS THE
LEEWARD ISLANDS, AND 2 TO 3 INCHES ACCOMPANIED BY GUSTY
CONDITIONS MAINLY IN SHOWERS ON WEDNSDAY ACROSS THE
BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS.
RESIDENTS OF THE LEEWARD ISLANDS AND BRITISH VIRGIN
ISLANDS ARE ADVISED TO CONTINUE MONITORING THE PROGRESS
OF DORIAN UNTIL IT CLEARS THE AREA.
