Electoral ballots arrived Tuesday at the Electoral Office on High Street under heavy police escort.

The excitement left pedestrians and motorists clueless as to what was happening.

Several streets in Castries surrounding the Electoral Department were blocked off by police as the ballot boxes were being removed from the delivery vehicle to the Electoral Department after which they will be transferred to an undisclosed location for security purposes.

According to Mr Gaspar Jn Baptiste, a total of 200,000 ballots were printed and based on the final voters list from the Electoral Department, approximately 175,000 Saint Lucians are registered to vote.

That figure includes the early voters, namely the police and firemen, who account for a little over 2,000 voters.

Islandwide there are 463 polling stations throughout the 17 districts and 105 polling divisions.

The general public will cast their ballots on July 26, however, police, firemen and electoral staff, inclusive of returning officers and clerks, will cast their vote on July 23.

In addition, patients at the various hospitals and at least two homes for the elderly will also cast their ballots on Friday.

“I just want to wish Saint Lucians the best for the election, may the best man and the best party win and I hope we will have a peaceful, free and fair election,” Jn Baptiste said.
