I watched the Oscar’s because for the first time in the 93 years of the Oscar’s they had their first Black director and 2 awesome Black men competing for Best actor, plus the movie “King Richard”…about Venus and Serena was up for Best Picture. So I got my popcorn and settled in for a classy night of elegant speeches the likes of Poitier, Denzel and Viola Davis.

What we all got was a ghetto version of
of a Black on Black crime and a generations old Black stereotype. Will walked on the global stage and bitch slapped and cursed his friend Chris out in front of millions over a joke aimed at Jada…a sista who is very transparent about all the details of her love life and relationships, and very capable of handling herself. She did not like the joke. Yes, it was stone cold GHETTO It was a first in 93 years of Oscars…in shock I said to my wife of 50 years…OMG…why us? Social media went crazy. Denzel warned Will that “The devil shows up in your greatest moments”

The act was without class, Will is better than that…a low EQ moment, no control of his emotions, thus reinforcing a Black stereotype our children should not have seen from a superstar. Will is responsible for destroying his greatest moment….his tearing acceptance speech rang hollow, meant nothing. Why? “What you do speaks so loudly I can’t hear what you say”

Chris Rock used restraint to handle the moment correctly…he made a joke of it and pressed on. He’s a comedian, nothing is off the table, the joke was related to her new role in G I Jane.

Will and Jada are his friends, Chris did not do it with malice, Will has done the same in the past. He owes Chris an apology, he had a chance to think about it and do it on stage…he didn’t. His ego got in the way.

Now he has an “infamous” moment seen by a global audience that will be shown repeatedly for decades as a highlight on Acadamy Awards bloopers. His ongoing career interviews will be answering…WHY THIS?

Respect for him will diminish, I will use it as a prime example of low EQ…the lack of management of your 5 most important emotions: happy, sad, fear, shame and anger. Again, it was a very bad example for Gen X, Y, Z’s to see that from a superstar! NO EXCUSES…this was not the old school Hip Hop Awards. Please tell them this was wrong…verbal and physical violence against each other at anytime is NOT the answer
This adds to the disrespect of us.
