FLASH FLOOD WATCH STATEMENT
FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FOR ST KITTS AND NEVIS

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH is now in effect for low lying and flood prone areas of St. Kitts and Nevis valid until 8 am tomorrow Friday 7th April 2023. A flash flood watch means that moderate to major flooding is possible but not imminent in the watch area. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. This watch can be upgraded to an advisory or warning at short notice or downgraded if warranted.

Residents in low lying and flood prone areas should prepare to safeguard life and property. They should be prepared to move to higher ground if flooding rains develop or a flash flood warning is issued.

A deep layered trough in the vicinity could cause periodic heavy showers, thunderstorms over the St. Kitts and Nevis during the next several hours. Considerable showers have fallen over these islands during the last 12 hours and any additional rainfall could result in flooding of low lying and flood prone areas; hence the reason for the watch at this time.

Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services will continue to monitor the weather situation. Please stay tuned to local radio or television for watch updates and possible warnings.
