DIPLOMATS STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO JOIN EFFORTS TO BUILD A SUSTAINABLE ST KITTS AND NEVIS

Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 25, 2023 (SKNIS): Diplomats from St. Kitts and Nevis and those accredited to the twin-island Federation were strongly encouraged to join with the government in achieving its goal to transform the country into a sustainable island state.

Prime Minister the Honourable Dr. Terrence Drew shared the government‘s vision at the opening ceremony of Diplomatic Week 2023 held at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort on Tuesday (April 25). The theme for the April 23 to 28 event is “Driving Change: Advancing a Vision for a Sustainable Island State.”

“Our theme for this week’s event, … succinctly captures the aspirations of our government as we forge a different path for our people, one that is at pace with the evolving demands of our global community and can meaningfully address our socioeconomic challenges while creating the enabling environment to achieve the sustainable development agenda,” Prime Minister Dr. Drew said.

He explained that since being elected eight months ago, the government has made considerable strides in crafting a strategic agenda.

“This has included significant legislative and constitutional reforms to ensure transparency and accountability in our actions as well as to remain compliant with international standards as part of our overall mandate to bring effective and long-lasting good governance to our Federation,” said Prime Minister Dr. Drew.

He added that the government has worked assiduously to reconnect and revive international partnerships, reboot the economy and restore the country’s economic prowess.

“As the government continues its quest to create a better St. Kitts and Nevis by transforming our beloved country into a sustainable small island state, our government looks forward with great anticipation to deepen our cooperation and collaboration with all of our diplomatic and consular partners to achieve this mandate,” Dr. Drew indicated.

The diplomats from around the world were welcomed by the Honourable Dr. Drew. Discussions and engagement throughout the week will touch on the government’s seven key pillars to build a sustainable state. These are food security, green energy transition, economic diversification, sustainable industries, the creative economy, COVID-19 recovery and social protection.
