Vaccine Mandate For Foreign Visitors Ends Soon

The White House announced on May 1, 2023, that the vaccine requirements for travel are to expire on May 11, 2023. This is the same date that many pandemic-era emergency measures were scheduled to sunset. However, it was still unclear if the travel vaccine mandate would end.

In a press statement, the Biden-Harris Administration mentions the following, “Today, we are announcing that the Administration will end the COVID-19 vaccine requirements for Federal employees, Federal contractors, and international air travelers at the end of the day on May 11, the same day that the COVID-19 public health emergency ends.”

The U.S. tourism industry has encouraged this policy change as most countries ended similar policies in 2022 or early 2023. Additionally, the death rate from Covid-19 has dropped substantially since the mandate was enacted, as the novel coronavirus isn’t as dangerous to the general public due to vaccines.

International air travelers must still be fully vaccinated to fly into the United States on May 11, 2023, or earlier. The mandate officially concludes at the end of the calendar day.
