TROPICAL STORM BRET ALERT STATEMENT

THIS IS FOR THE LEEWARD ISLANDS AND BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS …TROPICAL STORM BRET CONTINUES TO MOVE WESTWARDS…

AT 5PM ECT OR 2100Z THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM BRET WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 13.3 NORTH, LONGITUDE 53.9 WEST OR ABOUT 586 MILES SOUTHEAST OF THE LEEWARD ISLANDS AND BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS.


BRET IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST NEAR 15 MILES PER HOUR AND THIS GENERAL MOTION WITH AN INCREASE IN FORWARD SPEED IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE DURING THE NEXT FEW DAYS.


MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 65 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS. LITTLE CHANGE IN STRENGTH IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT DAY OR SO WHILE BRET APPROACHES THE LESSER ANTILLES. WEAKENING IS ANTICIPATED TO BEGIN THURSDAY NIGHT OR FRIDAY AFTER BRET PASSES THE LESSER ANTILLES, AND THE SYSTEM IS LIKELY TO DISSIPATE OVER THE CENTRAL CARIBBEAN SEA BY SATURDAY.


TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS EXTEND UP TO 105 MILES FROM THE CENTER.

THE ESTIMATED MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE IS 1000 MB OR 29.53.


ON ITS PRESENT TRACK, BRET IS FORECAST TO PASS WELL SOUTH OF AND AT A SAFE DISTANCE FROM THE LEEWARD AND BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS OVER ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY. NO SPECIFIC ACTION IS REQUIRED OF RESIDENTS IN THE LEEWARD AND BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS AT THIS TIME OTHER THAN TO KEEP MONITORING THE PROGRESS OF TROPICAL STORM BRET.


REPEATING THE 5 PM ECT POSITION, 13.3 N, 53.9 W. MOVEMENT TOWARD THE WEST NEAR 15 MPH. MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 65 MPH. THE MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE IS 1000 MB.
