FLASH FLOOD WATCH
ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA METEOROLOGICAL SERVICES 6:56 AM ECT THU, FEB 8, 2024

THE LEEWARD ISLANDS AND BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS

A flash flood watch is in effect for low lying and flood prone areas of Antigua, Barbuda, Montserrat, St. Kitts, Nevis, Anguilla, and the British Virgin Islands.

Valid until 8 a.m. today for the British Virgin Islands and Anguilla. Valid until 12 p.m. midday for the rest of the Leeward Islands. A flash flood watch means that moderate to major flooding is possible but not imminent in the watch area. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
Residents in low lying and flood prone areas should prepare for flooding, to safeguard life and property. They should be prepared to move to higher ground if flooding rains develop or a flash flood warning is issued.

A frontal trough over the leeward and British Virgin Islands is causing periodic moderate to heavy showers. Already, up to 4 inches of rain have fallen in some islands in the last 24 hours and another 1 to 2 inches still possible in the next 12 hours. Hence, moderate to major flooding of low lying and flood prone areas is possible.
Antigua and Barbuda meteorological services will continue to monitor the weather situation. Please stay tuned to local radio or television for watch updates and possible warnings.
