ADVANCING CARIBBEAN TEACHERS WORKSHOP 

CONCLUDES IN ST. KITTS AND NEVIS

Basseterre, St. Kitts, Monday, January 20, 2025The Advancing Caribbean Teachers Workshop successfully concluded on Friday, January 17, in St. Kitts and Nevis. The two-day event, which ran from January 16 to 17, focused on advancing Mathematics education and was a collaborative effort between the Commonwealth of Learning and the Ministry of Education, St. Kitts and Nevis.

The workshop was facilitated by Dr. Lois George, Programme Coordinator for Advancing Caribbean Teachers in Mathematics Education, who guided educators through innovative strategies to enhance Mathematics instruction. Participants engaged in hands-on sessions and discussions designed to equip them with tools to improve student engagement and outcomes in Mathematics.

“The purpose of the two-day workshop was to strengthen our primary school teachers’ competency in teaching Mathematics, particularly on the ability to facilitate conceptual development in students. We hope that our primary school teachers would be better equipped, better able, and confident to teach. We hope that this will be fulfilling to our teachers and beneficial to our students. in St. Kitts and Nevis,” explained Dr. George. 

The workshop forms part of a broader initiative that enhanceseducational quality across the Caribbean through teacher development, ensuring that students receive a strong foundation in critical subjects like Mathematics.

The workshop is being conducted in several Caribbeanterritories with St. Lucia as the next stop.
