Lukas Mikelionis
The wife of a Norwegian real estate tycoonย was abducted back in October, police only revealed on Wednesday, and the kidnappers are demanding $10 million ransom money in exchange for her life and freedom.

Anne-Elisabeth Falkevik Hagen, 68, has been missingย since Oct. 31, chief investigator Tommy Broeske revealedย on Wednesday, with police saying she was abducted โ€œagainst her will.โ€

Her husband Tom Hagen, a real estate investor and owner of power facilities, is among the wealthiest people in Norway, boasting a total wealth of about $2 billion.

Authorities said the suspected kidnappers left a note in the coupleโ€™s house, near the capital Oslo, detailing the fatal consequences if he refused to payย the demanded money in the form of the cryptocurrencies.

It remains unclear what the exact figure of the demanded ransom is, but local Norwegian media claim the kidnappers asked for more thanย $10 million.

“A ransom demand and serious threats have been issued,โ€ Broeske told a news conference. โ€œOur main theory is that the victim was kidnapped by unidentified perpetrators at her home,โ€ he said, adding that police investigated several possible theories of the disappearance.

The note reportedly said the wife would be killed if policeย gets involved, according to Norwayโ€™s VG newspaper.

The investigator said โ€œthe threats (in the note) were of a very serious characterโ€ and the police have no evidence that sheโ€™s alive โ€œbut we havenโ€™t received any indication that she isnโ€™t alive either.โ€

The reason the authorities went public with the case is to encourage anyone with any information about the kidnapping to come forward.

โ€œDespite a broad and extensive investigation, we need more information,โ€ he continued. โ€œWe have no suspects in this case,โ€ Broeske said, noting police have been โ€œon the case for several weeks. That is all Iโ€™d say.โ€

He urged the family not to pay the ransom money and said that the people behind the kidnapping โ€œhave chosen to communicate digitally and we have had no other type of contact.โ€

Norwegian authorities are working together with Europol and Interpol on the case. Police said the woman disappeared about 31 miles from the Swedish border.

A young man who sold one of his kidneys as a teenager on the black market in order to buy a new iPhone and iPad is now disabled, bedbound and needing constant care, according to recent reports on Chinese media.

The 25-year-old man, known by his surname Wang, had his kidney removed in an underground clinic before selling it on the black market for 22,000 yuan (ยฃ2,528) in 2011 when he was just 17 years old.

The teenager wanted an iPhone and iPad desperately in order to prove to his classmates that he was trendy, but his cash-strapped parents could not afford them.

His story shocked the country at the time, leading iPhones to be billed as ‘kidney machines’ by web users.

In order to raise funds for his gadgets, the high school student found three middlemen on a Chinese online chatting platform QQ, who promised to help him realise his dream – but at the cost of one kidney.

The Latest: R. Kelly’s attorney denies abuse allegations

The Latest on a documentary detailing abuse allegations against R. Kelly (all times local):

8:25 p.m.

An attorney for R. Kelly says abuse allegations made against the R&B star in a recent documentary are false.

In a phone interview Tuesday evening, Kelly’s Chicago attorney Steve Greenberg dismissed the allegations, calling them “another round of stories” being used to “fill reality TV time.”

Earlier Tuesday, Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx said she was “sickened” after watching the Lifetime documentary, “Surviving R. Kelly,” which examines a history of abuse allegations against the singer.

Greenberg says it is inappropriate for a state’s attorney to characterize allegations she’d seen on TV, prior to charges or an investigation.
