TROPICAL CYCLONE INFORMATION STATEMENT ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA METEOROLOGICAL SERVICE 2:35 PM ECT SUNDAY JUN 30 2024
….MAJOR HURRICANE BERYL KEEPING AWAY FROM THE AREA… THE ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA METEOROLOGICAL SERVICE CONTINUES TO FOLLOW THE PROGRESS OF MAJOR HURRICANE BERYL. THE SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO PASS A SAFE DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE LEEWARD ISLANDS AND THE BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS ON MONDAY. THERE IS NEAR CERTAINTY THAT BERYL WILL PASS A SAFE DISTANCE AWAY TO THE SOUTH OF THE NORTHEAST CARIBBEAN, THROUGH THE SOUTHERN WINDWARD ISLANDS TONIGHT AND TOMORROW. HENCE, THE REASONABLE WORST-CASE SCENARIO SUGGESTS THAT HURRICANE BERYL POSES LITTLE TO NO THREAT TO THE LEEWARD ISLANDS AND THE BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS. TO ENSURE YOUR SAFETY BEYOND BERYL, HAVE YOUR HURRICANE SEASON PLAN PREPARED. ADDITIONALLY, STAY ACTIVELY VIGILANT AND MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF THIS DANGEROUS CYCLONE. AT 2 PM ECT OR 1800 UTC, MAJOR HURRICANE BERYL WAS LOCATED ABOUT 590 MILES SOUTHEAST OF THE LEEWARD ISLANDS, ABOUT 310 MILES EAST-SOUTHEAST OF BARBADOS AND ABOUT 405 MILES EAST-SOUTHEAST OF ST. VINCENT MOVING WEST AT 21 MPH. MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 130 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS. ADDITIONAL STRENGTHENING IS FORECAST AND BERYL COULD APPROACH CATEGORY 5 STATUS BEFORE REACHING THE ISLANDS. BASED ON THE FORECAST MODEL TRACKS, THE SYSTEM IS FORECAST TO BE AT THE NEAREST POINT TO THE AREA MONDAY AS A MAJOR HURRICANE. SUSTAINED HAZARDOUS WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO STAY WELL CLEAR OF ANTIGUA AND THE REST OF THE NORTHEAST CARIBBEAN. PLEASE NOTE THAT NO TROPICAL CYCLONE ALERTS, WATCHES OR WARNINGS ARE CURRENTLY IN EFFECT FOR THE AREA AND NONE IS EXPECTED. HOWEVER, MARINE ALERTS ARE IN EFFECT, AND A HIGH WIND ADVISORY MAY BE REQUIRED. RESIDENTS SHOULD CONTINUE TO MONITOR MAJOR HURRICANE BERYL UNTIL IT IS OUT OF THE AREA AND ENSURE THAT THEY HAVE THEIR HURRICANE SEASON PLANS PREPARED. THE NEXT UPDATE WILL BE 2 PM TOMORROW OR SOONER, IF REQUIRED.
