TROPICAL CYCLONE INFORMATION STATEMENT
ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA METEOROLOGICAL SERVICE
8:00 AM ECT SATURDAY JUN 28 2024 …
TROPICAL DEPRESSION TWO HAS BECOME TROPICAL STORM BERYL…
THE ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA METEOROLOGICAL SERVICE CONTINUES
TO ACTIVELY FOLLOW THE PROGRESS OF TROPICAL STORM BERYL,
WHICH DEVELOPED FROM TROPICAL DEPRESSION TWO. THE SYSTEM IS
STILL FAR AWAY BUT IS LIKELY TO PASS SOUTH OF THE LEEWARD
ISLANDS AND THE BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS AS A HURRICANE AROUND
MONDAY.
THERE IS HIGH CONFIDENCE THAT TROPICAL STORM BERYL WILL
DEVELOP INTO A HURRICANE, WITHIN THE NEXT 24 HOURS. THERE IS
ALSO HIGH CONFIDENCE THAT THE SYSTEM WILL TRACK A
RELATIVELY SAFE DISTANCE AWAY TO THE SOUTH OF THE
NORTHEAST CARIBBEAN, THROUGH THE WINDWARD ISLANDS AROUND
MONDAY. HENCE, THE REASONABLE WORST-CASE SCENARIO

SUGGESTS THAT TROPICAL STORM BERYL POSES LITTLE THREAT TO
THE LEEWARD ISLANDS AND THE BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS.
NEVERTHELESS, IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT WE ARE NOT IN THE
CLEAR. TO ENSURE YOUR SAFETY, HAVE YOUR HURRICANE SEASON
PLAN PREPARED. ADDITIONALLY, STAY ACTIVELY VIGILANT AND
CLOSELY MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF THIS TROPICAL CYCLONE.
AT 8 AM ECT OR 1200 UTC, TROPICAL STORM BERYL WAS LOCATED
ABOUT 1126 MILES EAST SOUTHEAST OF THE LEEWARD ISLANDS
MOVING WEST AT 21 MPH.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 60 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS.
ADDITIONAL STRENGTHENING IS FORECAST AND BERYL IS EXPECTED
TO BECOME HURRICANE BY TOMORROW.

BASED ON THE FORECAST MODEL TRACKS, THE SYSTEM IS FORECAST
TO BE AT THE NEAREST POINT TO THE AREA MONDAY AS A
HURRICANE. THE HAZARDOUS WINDS WILL MORE LIKELY THAN NOT
STAY CLEAR OF ANTIGUA AND THE REST OF THE NORTHEAST
CARIBBEAN.

PLEASE NOTE THAT NO ALERTS, WATCHES OR WARNINGS ARE
CURRENTLY IN EFFECT FOR THE AREA; HOWEVER, A HIGH WIND
ADVISORY MAY BE REQUIRED. FURTHER, MARINE ALERTS WILL BE
REQUIRED.

RESIDENTS SHOULD CONTINUE TO CLOSELY MONITOR TROPICAL
STORM BERYL AND ENSURE THAT THEY HAVE THEIR HURRICANE
SEASON PLANS PREPARED.

AN UPDATE WILL BE GIVEN AROUND 8 PM TONIGHT, OR SOONER IF
REQUIRED.
