Vat Day, Tax And Duty Concession Approved For December 2017

St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): The usual duty and tax concessions given in December will be in effect this year, the government has confirmed.

From December 1st to December 31st packages of food items would be allowed free of duty and taxes for the first 400 lbs and imported non-commercial packages and the passenger allowance up to US$200 would also be allowed free of duty and taxes.

The government also informed of its decision to grant the annual VAT Discount Day in December, however the date is being discussed with the St. Kitts-Nevis Chamber of Industry & Commerce.

In 2016 the business community lobbied for two VAT Discount days, but only one was granted on December 16.

On Vat Discount Day all VAT registered businesses are allowed to charge VAT at the rate of 5 percent on the sale of tangible items that are normally subjected to the 17 percent VAT.
