UNESCO DELEGATION PAYS COURTESY CALL ON MINISTER OF EDUCATION FOLLOWING REGIONAL WORKSHOP

Basseterre, St. Kitts, Friday, May 15, 2026: Following SIM Caribbean workshops held on
Wednesday, 13, and Thursday, 14 May, hosted in St. Kitts and Nevis, the delegation from
UNESCO paid a courtesy call on Hon. Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, Minister of Education.

The delegation, which was in the Federation for the SIM Caribbean Media and Information
Literacy workshops, included Mr. Eric Falt, Regional Director, UNESCO Regional Office for
the Caribbean, and Mr. Paul Hector, Advisor for Communications and Information, UNESCO
Regional Office for the Caribbean.

among young people and key stakeholders took centre stage during the SIM Caribbean Media
and Information Literacy (MIL) and Youth Stakeholder Workshop, hosted by the St. Kitts and
Nevis National Commission for UNESCO on Thursday, May 14.

H.E. Nerys Dockery, Secretary General of the St. Kitts and Nevis National Commission for
UNESCO, highlighted the growing need for young people to navigate online spaces responsibly
and thoughtfully in an increasingly connected society.

UNESCO CYBERSECURITY WORKSHOP BRINGS REGIONAL STAKEHOLDERS TOGETHER IN ST. KITTS AND NEVIS

Commission for UNESCO hosted the SIM Caribbean Cybersecurity for Older Adults Hybrid
Workshop on Wednesday, May 13, bringing together regional stakeholders to discuss
cybersecurity, media literacy, misinformation, and digital transformation in the Caribbean.

Hon. Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, Minister of Education, highlighted the increasing need for senior
citizens to be equipped with the skills to navigate today’s technology-driven society safely.
