Mac 11 Freed Of Murder Charge

St Kitts and Nevis (WINN): After sitting in jail for an entire year on a murder charge, Dwight “Mac 11” Jacobs of Buckley’s Estate has been released.

The 30 year-old basketball player was arrested and charged for the offence of murder and Wounding with intent for a shooting in St. Johnston Village on October 27, 2016 that left 29-year-old Marlon “Mabo” Mills dead and his girlfriend who was in the vehicle with him at the time shot in the leg.

Police arrested Mac 11 that same night and charged him a few days later.

The matter went before the magistrate court on Tuesday after Director of Public Prosecution Valston Graham made an application to have the charges withdrawn.

DPP Graham said he made a decision to discontinue the matter since the prosecution could not bring a prima facie case against the accused and it would not be conscionable to keep the man remanded.

The case was based on a single witness who identified Jacobs as the shooter. The court heard that that witness had since become uncooperative and refused to give testimony in court.

The DPP says despite the matter being withdrawn at this time that does not bar the prosecution from reinstating the charges should further evidence arise.
