PM Harris, Foreign Minister Brantley slammed over politicalisation of UN Mission in New York

Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 16, 2017 – More evidence of corruption within Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris CCM/PLP/PAM government was highlighted Wednesday.

The St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) Parliamentary Representative for St. Christopher 2 (Central Basseterre) Hon. Marcella Liburd has accused Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mark Brantley, of removing the sister of Olympic icon Kim Collins due to budgetary constraints and then hiring a political activist to replace her at the St. Kitts and Nevis to the United Nations in New York.

She disclosed that Alva Pemberton, a close friend of Prime Minister Harris was employed at the UN Mission immediately after the sister of Kim Collins was let go.

Pemberton has sent out an official business card of his new post at the United Nations Mission, but his employment is more of a political activist on behalf of Harris’ three-party Team Unity coalition as one of his email addresses is listed as teamunitynorthamerica.

“Can you imagine what would happen if during the Labour Party administration, an officer at the UN Mission had a card saying stkittsnevislabourpartynorthamerica, what would happen? With all the mantra of good governance from this government, what are the decent-minded people are saying about this? This is atrocious. This is what St. Kitts and Nevis has come to under this Team Unity Government? The St. Kitts and Nevis Mission to the United Nations has become highly politicised,” Liburd told listeners to Wednesday’s “Issues” programme on Freedom 106.5 FM.
