Appeal court to hear nearly 50 matters when it sits in St. Kitts next week
Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 2, 2017 – Nearly 50 matters will come before The Eastern Caribbean Court of Appeal during a one-week sitting in Basseterre next week.
Two panels of appeal court judges will tackle some 49 matters between December 4th and 8th at the Sir Lee Llewellyn Moore Judicial and Legal Services Complex.
According to the Cause List finalised on December 1st and posted on the Court’s website, the Appeal Court judges will deliver two judgements.
To be heard are four applications/motions, eleven High Court criminal appeals against conviction; six High Court civil appeals; one Magisterial criminal appeal against sentence; two Magisterial appeals against convection; seven Magisterial civil appeals and seven High Court civil appeals.
Seven High Court Criminal appeals will come up for status hearing on Friday 8th December as well as eight High Court civil appeals and one magisterial civil appeal.
According to the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court website, 215 of the 276 appeal matters listed for hearing were heard during five full court sittings between January to March 2017.
“There were 2 video/teleconferences held in the period during which the 2 listed matters were heard. 5 full court sittings were held during which 215 matters were heard out of the 276 matters listed for hearing. Additionally there were 3 Chamber Hearings held where 108 matters were heard out of the 123 matters listed for hearing,” said the report.
