YOUNG LABORITES OPPOSE THE RETURN OF OLD REJECTED CANDIDATES
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JANUARY 22nd 2018 Parliamentary Representative for Constituency No.3 Hon Konris Maynard has hinted that there is internal turmoil within the St Kitts Nevis Labour Party. His Freudian slip was made while he was a guest of the St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party panel on Freedom Radio on Wednesday January 17th 2018.
Mr. Maynard, who is a relatively inexperienced politician and without much political public relations, while pointing out the latest development within the Labor Party as it prepares for the next general elections, inadvertently divulged what, can be described as a bitter rancor among its decision-making members of the St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party.
In recent times, there has been speculation of internal power struggle over the leadership of the party. We have been reliably informed that the “Young Laborites” are not satisfied with the constant recycling of old-aged candidates such as those who were vehemently rejected by the electorate at the 2015 polls.
He went on to reveal that as a result of the constant infighting within the St Kitts Nevis Labour Party that currently there are some 18 young people who have applied to take over the candidacy of the unwanted candidates in the 2015 general elections.
According to Mr. Maynard, “What is very, very heartening, and in my view, I don’t know the final decisions as yet because it is at the committee stage and they have not announce it yet but I do know who some of the viable options are and either of the options that have come forward in some of these constituencies will give some of the incumbent representatives a hard time.”
The embryonic yet feisty politician went on to make the point, “I must say that it [the Labor youth revolution] looks exciting. There will be plenty of talk. [From the naysayers] There will be plenty of oohs and aahs.” He continued, “There will be plenty of people wondering if they are going to hold their seats next elections.”
It is reported that this new insurgence by the youth is designed to put pressure on the losing candidates such as Asim Martin who has refused to resign or retire to make way for a Geoffrey Handley who is a much younger candidate.
Mr. Maynard appeared to be confident that the young revolutionary labourites are on the right track to take the party into the 2020 general elections, “When you can have the number of interested candidates as we had, I can say publicly 18, 18 people registered and have shown their intent to be candidates for 8 seats in SKN!”
Following the internal debacle, for obvious reasons, a week of activities is now planned for the Central Basseterre Constituency.
