Family member feels cousin was kidnapped, tortured and killed

Basseterre, St. Kitts, January 29, 2018 – Mounting speculation that 23-year-old Shaquille Pemberton, was murdered before the body was dumped close to the control tower at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport.

“..We need justice. He never do anything. He was kidnapped Friday and tortured and found behind the airport…” said a family member in a posting send to Washington-based Nevisian blogger Everton “Obi” Elliott.

The family member said Pemberton was living in New Road with family members.

“I haven’t slept. I tried cry myself to sleep, but it’s hard. Believe me,” the cousin said.

Scores of persons have expressed sadness on the death of Pemberton, who was employed as a Bellman at the recently opened Park Hyatt St. Kitts.

“I still can’t believe this news…this was my co-worker…I use to talk to him like my little brother,” wrote Russhell Jeffers.

“I can’t believe this oh my God this one hit me hard. I know him from birth. Rest in peace Shaq,” posted Vanessa Flemming.

A statement from the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force on Sunday said Pemberton’s body was found in the Gillard Meadows area on Saturday night and “appears to have injuries to the chest.”

A post mortem is to be carried out.

If the autopsy confirms Pemberton’s death unnatural, it would be the first murder for St. Kitts and the third for the Federation for 2018. The previous two murders occurred on Nevis.

On 17th January, 19-year-old Cleon Browne was gunned down in a hail of bullets as he walked along the road in Rawlins Village, Gingerland, Nevis.

Murder #2 occurred on January 21 when the body of 45-year-old Shirley Dawn Morton was found at the home of her boyfriend Wayne “Spyer” Chapman, whos has been arrested.

The Federation last year recorded 23 murders. There were 31 murders in 2016; 28 in 2015; 21 in 2014; 21 in 2013 and 18 in 2012.
