DENZIL DOUGLAS LEADS BUT A REBELLIOUS KONRIS NAR FOLLOW

Konris’ action in the National Assembly sternly showed that he is at loggerheads with the leader of the St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party, the Hon Denzil Douglas. Konris is reportedly angry because Dr Douglas promised him that he would be fielding new candidates for the upcoming elections to replace the old guards such as Asim, Marcella and Ghost.

Konris puts up a good front but his actions speak louder than his frail words because just a few days before, while on FreedomFM, he said that they were standing behind their leader Dr Douglas. The leader of the Opposition, Denzil Douglas, was thrown out of the parliament for having broken the rules of the parliament but King Konris showed that he was not prepared to stand by his leader Dr Douglas. He was not prepared to stand with Douglas.

In the past, when Dr Douglas was evicted from the parliament, Konris would have left the parliament with his leader. This time Konris did not budge, he did not even raise his hand to say good bye to Denzil Douglas. This was a perfect opportunity for Konris to match his words in parliament but he failed.

This is the first time Konris and the Marcella Liburd stayed put as if they were set in cement. Normally if your leader is put out, you’d walk out in solidarity with your leader. The leader cannot be put out and you just stay there. What mixed signal was Konris sending to the public? Previously when Team Unity was walking out, everyone walked out together as a team and this is a norm in parliamentary democracy. DOUGLAS LEAD BUT NOBODY FOLLOWED
When the leader leads or is thrown out, the rest of the house walks out with him. For example, when Kenny Anthony of St Lucia walked out the house when the United Workers Party (UWP) was in charge, the rest of his colleagues walked out with him on the principle that the parliament couldn’t function without a deputy speaker in place. Kenny pointed out that the lack of a deputy speaker was unconstitutional and that he was not going to be a part of that charade so he and his followers walked out together. ANTHONY LEADS AND HIS FOLLOWERS FOLLOWED.

As a matter of principle the leader is not an ordinary person. So when the leader gets humiliated as was done to Dr Douglas, everybody leaves, even if they come back after a while. More importantly, at that point of humiliation, they must show solidarity with their leader. Nevertheless, KONRIS, who is upset with Douglas, STOOD HIS GROUND.
In the past when Dr Douglas was in his heyday whenever he said, “let’s go boys”, everyone would have left like three blind mice. This time, on Tuesday January 23rd 2018, it did not happen. Konris stood his ground. How come this time on a matter of principle they did not even walk out to protest and show solidarity?
What was significant about Konris’ refusal to stand with the rejected leader, the Mugabe of the Douglas Labour Party, was that for the whole day while Konris failed to show solidarity in any way with Douglas, HE SPOKE NOT A WORD IN THE PARLIAMENT.
You cannot even say that Konris went there prepared to make a contribution because he spoke nothing. Two bills were debated. The Development Control and Planning Bill 2018 but he said nothing. The PM moved it; Mr Hamilton seconded it and then the wrap up but WITHOUT A SINGLE CONTRIBUTION COMING FROM KONRIS.
The second bill the Vehicle and Traffic Amendment Bill was moved by Hon Patches and seconded by Hon Brantley. Hon Marcella spoke on it briefly but yet AGAIN KONRIS SAID NOTHING.
At the adjournment of parliament where people get up and say different things, some congratulated Hon Mark Brantley on the victory of being returned to the parliament, in his new capacity elevated as Premier of Nevis. Hon Shawn spoke, Hon Vance spoke, Hon Patches spoke and the PM spoke but yet AGAIN HON KONRIS SAID NOTHING.
You can now ask yourself, what did he stay for? Condolences were offered to the families of the late John Jeffers and Reginald James as well as to the families of the homicide victims in Nevis. AGAIN KONRIS SAID NOTHING,
What did he stay for? It was not a case where he could say that he did not want to leave because he wanted to make his important point. So then what is he being paid to do in parliament as an elected member? He goes there and says nothing! Not even to say that he supports or opposes the Bills. Not even to make a tentative defence or even a weak one on behalf of Douglas because Marcella did attempt to do so early in the debate. BUT KONRIS SAID NOTHING.
Denzil Douglas is the embodiment of the old guard whose time has come and Konris recognised that. Konris became discouraged when he heard that the Douglas passport scandal had moved to the court and this was for the first time he recognized that Douglas had lied to them and the matter had to be very serious, otherwise the TU government would not have ventured so far.
Konris was too ashamed of Douglas to defend him because he could not understand what could have motivated Douglas to go to get a Dominican passport. What vanity of man as he says in his song!
It is very evident that nobody is taking on the old Douglas. DOUGLAS LEADS BUT NOBODY FOLLOWS
