Will Attorney General Byron break his silence on allegations of sexual assault in his chambers

Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 13, 2018 – All eyes and ears are on the St. Kitts and Nevis National Assembly Tuesday morning to see and hear if Attorney General and Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs, Sen. the Hon. Vincent Byron Jr., will respond to allegations of sexual assault in the Chambers of the Attorney General, Government Headquarters on Church Street. The lawmaking body convenes at 10 am

Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris has called on Mr. Byron to defend himself.

“I cannot speak for the Hon. Attorney General who is not here and I would expect the Attorney General, being a man of law, is better suited than I am to make his own defence,” said Dr. Harris when asked about the issue at his recent press conference.

Since then, the Concerned Women Of SKN has urged the Attorney General to break his silence.

A caller to a local talk show is of the view that Dr. Harris should initiate an independent investigation into allegation of a sexual assault in the Attorney General Chambers.

“Wrong is wrong. There should be no ifs or buts. The prime minister at his press conference is passing the buck to his Attorney General (Hon. Vincent Byron), instead of saying definitively, that there will be an independent investigation,” said a male caller.

He said no one will have confidence in a government department investigating himself.

The alleged assault in the Chambers of the Attorney General was first reported in the St. Kitts and Nevis National Assembly by Leader of the Opposition, The Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas.
