Young woman in mid-20’s robbed and raped by armed men in Basseterre Monday night
Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 13, 2018 – Another robbery and rape is being reported in St. Kitts.
According to a well-informed source, two armed and masked men found their way into a young lady’s apartment and raped her in Basseterre Monday night.
The young lady, in her early 20’s is said to be traumatised.
“Her phone was taken and a gun was brandished,” said a person knowledgeable of the incident.
“Do these beasts have a mother, sisters, aunts and cousins? I believe it’s the most horrible experience for a woman to be sexually assaulted. The mental and emotional trauma of such an ordeal linger for years or life in many cases,” said the former nurse.
“Crime is not trending down,” she said.
Last Friday night, police in Nevis rescued a high school student found wandering on the by-pass.
The Charlestown High School student had “no shoes, no school bag and clothes rip down.”
Police sources have confirmed the incident but there has been no release from the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force.
Police were also investigating a rape incident that occurred in the Taylor’s Range in January.
Police statistics show a 12 percent increase in 2017 over the previous year.
There were 414 reports of larcenies in 2017 compared to 390 in 2016. There were 81 reported armed robberies in 2017 compared to 57 in 2016.
Possession, importation and smuggling of firearms offences increased from 34 in 2016 to 38 in 2017.
Possession, trafficking and importation of drugs offences also increased from 283 in 2016 to 395 in 2017.
Double digit increases were also registered in malicious damage to property from 86 reports in 2015 to 169 in 2016 and 213 in 2017.
Overall reported crimes increased from 1,050 in 2015 to 1,665 in 2016 and 1,868 in 2017.
