WINNFM, lawyer Anthony confirm Taliba Byron asked for an adjournment on behalf of her uncle, Attorney General Vincent Byron
Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 26, 2018 – WINNFM and Attorney Sylvester Anthony, counsel for former St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister and currently, Leader of the Opposition, the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, have confirmed that Attorney General, Hon. Vincent Byron asked High Court Judge Justice Trevor Ward for an adjournment and time to file a response to Dr. Douglas’ affidavits.

The request for an adjournment was made on the Attorney General behalf by his niece, Taliba Byron of the law firm, Byron & Byron on Fort Street, of which the Attorney General is a partner.
During the hearing before Justice Trevor Ward, QC, on Monday morning, no consul from the Attorney General’s Chambers or the Ministry of Legal Affairs, was present when Taliba Byron appeared on behalf of her uncle, Attorney General Vincent Byron.
Mr. Anthony told the court that based on Ms. Byron’s application for leave to provide an expert witness on the laws of Dominica, he too would also provide a similar witness.
“We will also be doing the same. So the court has made an order giving the claimants (Attorney General) additional time to file their responding affidavit. We have reserved the right to file additional affidavits in the event that any new evidence is introduced in their responding affidavits and the court has set some dates in relation to the next hearing so that the applications for the expert witness can be heard and a date of April 20th has been set for the hearing of those applications,” said Anthony in an interview with WINNFM.
Ms. Byron had asked for the matter to be adjourned to May 23, 2018, but Dr. Douglas’ lawyer, Sylvester Anthony told Justice Warde that the case was extremely important to Dr. Douglas and his 6,000 constituents and wished to have the matter heard earlier.
Justice Warde set a trial date for April 20, 2018.
WINNFM asked Taliba Byron for an interview after the adjournment.
