Team Unity – a greedy, corrupt and heartless government, says Labour’s deputy leader

Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 1, 2018 – The people of St. Kitts and Nevis have been subjected to the ravages of a greedy, corrupt, and heartless government led by St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris.

“We have seen the results of the wanton nepotism, the scandals that continue to rock the nation, the cronyism that has left many of our people without jobs, and the dictatorial practices that pose a constant and direct threat to our democracy,” said Dr. Earl Asim Martin, Deputy Poliical Leader of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP).

At the party’s press conference on Wednesday, the former Deputy Prime Minister said since February 2015, St. Kitts and Nevis has not only been stagnated, but also in a state of regression due to the corrupt actions, greed, and reckless fiscal decisions of the PLP/CCM/PAM coalition government.

He said as a result of the coalition administration’s lack of vision, there has not been a single foreign direct investment coming to St. Kitts and Nevis since the government took office three years ago.

“Dr. Harris’ reckless campaign tactics in the lead-up to the 2015 general elections dealt the Citizenship by Investment Programme’s reputation some very serious damage. Since taking office, he has been desperately trying to find ways in which to repair the disastrous results of his words and actions, but to no avail. Despite his decision to expel millions of tax payers’ dollars to resolve a problem of his creation, our once top-notch CBI programme is basically dead,” Dr. Martin told reporters.

He said the nation has seen a select few families fatten themselves, their pockets, and their bank accounts out of the people’s purse for three years.

“Their chant of “familaay” has been played out right before our very eyes, much to the detriment of the masses. Three years was more than enough time for Dr. Harris’ coalition administration to prove its worth to the people. It has proven itself to be worthless than nothing. It is time for them to go,” said the former St. Christopher 1 (East Basseterre) Parliamentary Representative.
Dr. Martin said the time has come for the Labour Party to take a stand for the people and the future of St. Kitts and Nevis.

“We will not be silent in public neither will we sit idly by while our rights are trampled upon in the Parliament. The voice of the Opposition is the voice of the people and the voice of the people must never be silenced,” he said.
