MP Marcella Liburd accuses Nevis Premier
Mark Brantley of “full-blown hypocrisy”

Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 12, 2018 – Chairperson of the opposition St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party, Hon. Marcella Liburd has accused Premier of Nevis and the Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Mark Brantley of “full blown hypocrisy” and called on him to stop playing politics and trying to confuse the people of the twin-island Federation.

Ms. Liburd said Mr. Brantley has no respect for people or for their intelligence.

“It is an insult to people’s intelligence for you to suggest that they cannot think for themselves and make their own decisions. Perhaps that is why you feel you have to force people to stand to attention whenever you enter a room,” said Liburd in response to a statement from Brantley.

“Secondly, you showed your usual passion for ‘obfuscation’ (your famous word). You fully well know that the matters to do with Shawn Richards and Lindsay Grant, are not the same as this matter with Dr Douglas. You fully well know that Shawn Richards and Lindsay Grant were in fact American citizens who had sworn allegiance to the United States of America. You also know that Dr. Douglas swore no allegiance to Dominica or to any other country,” said Liburd.

Further accusing Brantley as “disingenuous,” Ms. Liburd asked: “Are you still the Minister of Foreign Affairs? If so I would like to ask you what nationality is stated in the St Kitts and Nevis diplomatic passports. I would also like to ask you whether there are non-citizens who hold St. Kitts and Nevis diplomatic passports. And if so, whether the fact that they hold diplomatic passports makes them citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis.”

She suggested that Mr. Brantley, who collects two salaries monthly – one from the Federal Government of St. Kitts and Nevis and one from the Nevis Island Administration.

“You seem to love the admonition in the Holy Writ. This is the same thing you said when you wanted to get Nevisians to vote against Patrice Nisbett in the 2013 local elections. You said he could not serve in the Federal Parliament and in the Nevis Island Assembly at the same time, as you cannot serve God and mammon. A petition was also started for Nevisians to sign against someone being in the Federal Parliament and the Nevis Island Assembly at the same time.

Where are you today, Mark? And what of the Holy Writ? Full-blown hypocrisy!” said Ms. Liburd.
