PLP Constituency Number Three Branch holds successful fundraising fish fry event
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, March 12, 2018 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — Peoples Labour Party (PLP) Branch in Constituency St. Christopher Number Three, West Basseterre, fulfilled one of its mandates when it held a fundraising fish fry and barbeque event on Boyd’s Lawn Friday evening March 9.
The event was well supported by scores of party supporters and non-supporters alike from Constituency Number Three and further afield who could not resist the aroma of fried fish and barbeque chicken that filled the cool night air, even as they were happy to contribute to a worthy cause.
“We, the PLP Constituency Number Three Branch, have decided to do a fish-fry and barbeque fundraising event,” said PLP Branch Chairperson for Constituency Number Three the Hon Akilah Byron-Nisbett. “We are trying our best to see how much funds we can generate for the Constituency in order for us to be able to assist persons with their simple needs.”
The Hon Akilah Byron-Nisbett who is also PLP’s National Deputy Political Leader explained that a number of persons in the constituency from time to time need help with a walkway, or putting up a fence and funds raised from the fish fry and barbeque will go a long way to assist such persons, as the party believes in empowering and assisting persons to enjoy the comforts of life wherever they are.
The Peoples Labour Party Branch in Constituency Number Three would have held similar fundraising events, the last one being a breakfast held at Camps in August last year, which according to the Branch Chairperson, was aimed at fostering more community spirit. The fish fry and barbeque event is the first for the year and she promises that more such activities will be held as the year goes by.
Turnout was encouraging as among those coming to support the fundraising included PLP’s National Political Leader and Prime Minister of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis Dr the Hon Dr Timothy Harris. Other Peoples Labour Party branches had their representatives who also turned out to ensure that the event was a success.
“I am very pleased with the turnout this evening,” reported the Hon Akilah Byron-Nisbett. We have had quite a number of persons passing through getting their fish, chicken, pork, conchs and drinks – anything you wanted was here tonight and it seems as if everyone was pleased with all of our offerings this evening.”
The PLP Constituency Branch Number Three Chairperson added: “We did receive huge support from Number Seven. We had the Prime Minister who was also here. He is always very supportive of any efforts that we have in Constituency Number Three. I am always grateful to him.”
Prime Minister Harris, who was kept busy by the many persons who wanted to engage him and he responded positively, thanked the Hon Akilah Byron-Nisbett and members of the Branch Executive for organising such an event whose aim is to raise funds to help others in West Basseterre which is one of the densely populated constituencies.
“This is truly an act of putting people first and the PLP Constituency Number Three deserves praise from all people of goodwill for this noble gesture,” said Dr Harris. “The Peoples Labour Party is a party of the people and when we mobilise each other to raise funds to help the less fortunate in our society it is our way of telling them that we love them as they are part of us.”
Working hard to ensure that the event was the success it was were members of the PLP Constituency Number Three Branch Executive, with Ms Maritza Dias on the grill and supported by constituent Chakers, Ms Renee Taylor frying the fish, Ms Jacinth Francis serving the fish dish, Ms Trista Wattley assisting with serving at the grill, and Mr Clive Jr. Nias and Mr Eugene Dias serving as cashiers.
Members of the PLP National Executive who reside in Constituency Number Three played a part, including Youth Arm Representative Mr Damian Weeks who was in the bar, and National Treasurer Mr Victor Earle who assisted at the bar. Also present to give support were PLP National Organiser Mr Alexis Nisbett and PLP Founding Member Mr Antonio Maynard.
National party officials from outside Number three who came in to lend their support included, National Chairman Mr Warren Thompson, National Secretary Ms Myrtilla Williams, Women’s Arm Representative Mrs Sonia Henry, Youth Arm Representative Mr Manasses Huggins, PLP Founding Member Mr William Phillip, and Ms Jacqueline Prentice.
Constituency Number Seven was represented by a busload of members of the Women’s Arm of Constituency Number Seven who were driven by Mr Ericson ‘Wixie’ Wescott. From Number Eight there was PLP Branch Chairman Mr Wendell Wattley, Secretary Mr Mario Wigley, and Women’s Representative Mrs Audrey Alleyne.
Number Four had Branch Chairman Mr Philmore Bedford, Branch Coordinator Ms Petrona Thomas, while according to Ms Thomas another six known PLP supporters from Constituency Number Four graced the occasion. From Number Five included Branch Chairman Mr Glenville Mills, Secretary Ms Amoy Heyliger, Treasurer Mr Lindsey Caesar, and Peoples Labour Party support Mr Dwight Burke.
