PLP’s Second National Convention’s grounds in West Basseterre getting ready

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, March 22, 2018 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — Peoples Labour Party (PLP) Constituency Number Three Executive Branch Chairperson, Senator the Hon Akilah Byron-Nisbett, says her branch has been charged with the task of ensuring that grounds at the Pasty Allers Playing field are ready and prepared for the party’s Second National Convention on Saturday March 24.

“On Sunday March 18 we were able to complete the erection of the tent and plans are moving steadily along, as we speak right now, today is Wednesday we already have the stage in place. We have the platforms going down inside the tent for persons to stand on and be more comfortable sitting and standing,” said Hon Byron-Nisbett in an interview on the grounds on Wednesday March 21.

“We are going to have persons coming in to clear the grounds to ensure that they are tidy, and we are going to have a person coming in to start decorations as early as tomorrow Thursday, and so plans are moving steadily along,” said Hon Byron-Nisbett, who is also the Deputy National Political Leader of the Peoples Labour Party which is led by Prime Minister Dr the Hon Timothy Harris.

Accompanied by two Branch Executive members, Mr Clive Jr Nias, the treasurer, Ms Jacinth Francis, Polling Division Two Representative, and PLP National Executive Member, Youth Arm Representative, Mr Damian Weekes, who hails from Constituency Number Three, the Chairperson reported that they were out to ensure that the venue was ready to receive thousands of persons who would be coming for the convention.

“We must also be reminded that a convention of this nature, PLP would have been the first to bring the convention to people, and so we are continuing in that same vein,” said the Hon Akilah Byron-Nisbett. “In 2017 when we had our first convention it would have been hosted in Constituency Number Seven, the constituency of the leader for our party Dr the Hon Timothy Harris.”

She added: “We had a huge showing then, and this year we are having it in Constituency Number Three, which is the second constituency in which a PLP candidate normally runs within the Team Unity construct for elections.”

The Executive Body of Constituency Number Three Branch of the PLP is extremely happy to be able to bring the PLP Convention as well as the Peoples Labour Party to the people and  getting everybody involved, she noted adding, “because as we always says, people matter more to us, and we always put people first.”

In the meantime PLP’s Youth Arm Representative Mr Damian Weekes informed that members of the public are welcome to the convention. He made the comments when Mr Arlington Jeffrey, who said he was from McKnight stopped by the huge tent on the Patsy Allers Playing field on Tuesday March 20 to find out what was going on.

Appearing on the popular WINN FM’s Voices programme on Thursday March 22, PLP Deputy National Chairman, Mr Craig Tuckett told host Mr Clive Bacchus, that all guests to the Convention which starts promptly at 2:00 pm will be expected to be seated by 1:30 p.m.

“The first segment of our convention will be the public session,” said Mr Tuckett. “It is open to all specially invited guests but we are taking the convention to the people. Those who are willing to learn about the party and who would like to become members, we have an area there where you can actually register on site. It costs one dollar a month to be a member.”
