ST. KITTS AND NEVIS’ PRIME MINISTER CONGRATULATES GUYANA ON ITS 52nd ANNIVERSARY OF INDEPENDENCE

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, May 28, 2018 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – Prime Minister, Dr. the Honourable Timothy, has expressed heartfelt congratulations on behalf of the Government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana on the occasion of that country’s 52nd anniversary of Independence, which was celebrated on Saturday, May 26.

Prime Minister Harris’ congratulatory letter to the President of Guyana, His Excellency Brigadier David Granger, reads in part:

“Fifty-two years of nationhood are indeed a significant milestone, which causes one to reflect on the many accomplishments of Guyana in the fields of agriculture, industry, commerce, sports and culture, in which your country has distinguished itself as a leader, worthy of emulation by small states within the Caribbean Community. Your commitment to regional integration is equally commendable!

St. Kitts and Nevis and the Republic of Guyana have long enjoyed cordial relations. This is especially evident with a growing number of Guyanese nationals settling in our beloved Federation, helping to enrich our culture, and as we continue to implement the provisions of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME).

May God continue to bless you and the good people of the Republic of Guyana as you endeavor to meet your development objectives!”

Guyana gained Independence on May 26, 1966, and officially became a republic within the Commonwealth of Nations in 1970.
