Statement by Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris
On the Occasion of Father’s Day
Sunday, June 17th, 2018
My Fellow Citizens and Residents,
Today, our Nation’s Fathers are being celebrated and honoured by children and families whose lives are blessed by their unfailing presence, protection, provision and positive example.
As a man who was raised by highly supportive parents – and who is now the proud Father of two young ladies – I understand that the consistent giving of discipline, time and love is essential to building strong, healthy parent-child relationships that can last through adulthood and adversity. It is also the key to raising children to become productive, happy and responsible adults.
This Father’s Day, I challenge us to imagine a world where every child benefits from a Father’s involvement, investment and interest throughout childhood and into adulthood. What a wonderful world that would be!
It is my wish, therefore, that all the loving, dedicated Fathers whom we know and pay tribute to today would find a little time to mentor other Fathers and also serve as a trusted Father Figure whenever an adult relative of a child asks for their help and expertise.
On behalf of the Government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis, I commend and acknowledge all of our Federation’s Fathers and Father Figures for their significant role in shaping and safeguarding our society’s future.
Daddy, Dad, Poppa, Pops, Uncle, or however you are affectionately called, you should know that on this Father’s Day – and, indeed, every day – we affirm your far-reaching impact on our Nation’s children and applaud your commitment to Fatherhood.
