High level athletics make a return to Nevis; Development Bank is major sponsor
Charlestown, Nevis, July 17, 2018 (DBSKN) — After about a quarter century hiatus, Culturama Games are back with a bang thanks to a fruitful collaboration between the Titans Athletics Club and Timothy Caines and Associates Limited, and a host of sponsors including the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis.
“With the approval of the Culturama Secretariat, we this year will be reviving the Culturama Games, an athletic meet showcasing top national, regional, and international athletes,” said Mr Timothy Caines. “The meet is slated for Sunday July 22 at the Nevis Athletics Stadium (aka Mondo Track) in Long Point Nevis, beginning at 3:30 pm.”
Mr Caines made the remarks on Monday July 16 at the Branch office of the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis, when he received the bank’s sponsorship cheque from Ms Avelyn Browne, the Bank’s Credit Risk Analyst.
“The meet has confirmed entries and interest from Nevis, Antigua, Anguilla, St. Kitts, Grenada, Nigeria, Brazil, the BVI, the Bahamas, and the United States of America,” stated Mr Caines. A number of Federation’s track kings and queens who are household names will also feature.
Set to headline the women’s 100 meters and 200 meters are Jasmine Todd, Rosangela Santos, Britney Browne, Taheisha Harrigan-Scott, Octavious Freeman, Tynia Gaither, and Shenel Crooke. Featured in the men’s 400 are Kyree King, Calvin Smith Jr, Marquese Washington, Chidi Okezie, Kaliffa Rosser, Warren Hazel and Bralon Taplin, while the men’s 100 meters will see Jason Rodgers, Antione Adams, Raymontay McClain, Justin Walker, Hakeem Huggins and Wayne Matthew.
“The meet will also feature individual competitions in aged categories, male and female being Under 9, Under 11, Under 13, Under 15 and Under 17,” observed Mr Caines. “In these categories athletes from St. Kitts and from Nevis will match prowess against athletes from Anguilla and from Antigua. It will be a high calibre meet giving some of our best young talents opportunity to match against the best from the region on home soil.”
While thanking all the sponsors of the 2018 Culturama Games, Mr Caines concluded by saying: “Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis is a proud sponsor of this revival of regional and international athletics in Nevis.”
On making the cheque presentation, Ms Browne said: “The Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis supports activities that keep our country’s youth occupied in a constructive way, and these games will go a long way in doing that. As an institution that believes in giving our youth the best, we applaud the Nevis Island Administration for making the greatest contribution in this area through the construction of a world class athletics stadium for use by our athletes.”
