“For over 21 years, the National Housing Corporation has been in existence delivering affordable houses throughout the island of St. Kitts, and from the seven different housing projects that we have delivered throughout this tenure improvements were made in each case but I would hasten to say that the Unity Housing Solution is by far our best product,” Mrs. Simpson-Browne said at the NHC key presentation ceremony held at La Guerite on Thursday, August 23.
During that ceremony, keys to 12 different units of a recently built townhouse were handed over to 12 deserving families of West Basseterre.
The houses under the Unity Housing Solutions scheme boast galvalume roofs, bigger rooms, including more spacious bedrooms and bathrooms, and high quality finishes. The houses are now 862 square feet compared to the 780 square feet on the houses built under the previous administration.
In addition to the townhouse, eight houses on individual lots throughout various communities in Constituency Three are nearing completion and a contract is expected to be signed shortly for the construction of a second townhouse in the constituency.
“It is therefore a testimony that the commitment by the Unity Government of providing improved lower cost houses for the citizens and residents is indeed a commitment fulfilled not in a selected area but in all eight constituencies in St. Kitts, and the National Housing Corporation is honoured to be the entity that the Government has mandated to accomplish this,” Mrs. Simpson-Browne added.
Furthermore, recipients of the 300 homes constructed under the Unity Housing Solutions scheme will receive a free 100-pound gas cylinder with free installation compliments the management of Delta Petroleum St. Kitts Ltd.
