PM Harris joins Molineux/Phillips community in mourning the late Daniel Adolphus Bourroughs
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, September 4, 2018 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — Prime Minister, and Area Parliamentary Representative for St. Christopher Seven, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris has emotionally mourned the passing of one his constituents, the late Daniel Adolphus Bourroughs, who died on Tuesday August 21 at the age of 84.
“Daniel was a well-known figure in the Molineux and Phillips community,” said Prime Minister Harris at the funeral service that was held at the Estridge Moravian Church in Mansion on Friday August 31. “He was a hard worker, and industrious. He was a protector of his family and friends.”
At the funeral service which was conducted by the Rev Ivan Williams, and attended by a wide cross-section of the extended family and friends, Prime Minister Harris informed the congregation that the late Bourroughs cared so much for his children and that he treated them in the best way he could and that his word was his promise.
“I got to know him many years back and through thick and thin, troubles and struggles Daniel was faithful in his support to me and to my cause,” said Prime Minister Harris, who is a sixth term parliamentarian having been first elected to parliament in November 1993. “Therefore I owe the family a debt of gratitude for allowing him to be brave when there was need to be brave, and to show solid support always.”
In offering condolences to the widow Mrs Veronica Bourroughs, and the children, Dr Harris told them that even as death comes with all its troubles and tribulations that they have to weather the storm by finding an anchor, advising them to remember that the greatest anchor must be God Almighty.
“He is the God of mercy and love and I am sure that He will give the family the strength and the courage to stand together as Daniel would have wanted it – to show love and consideration even at this moment as we grieve,” advised Dr Harris.
Prime Minister Harris, who is also the National Political Leader of the Peoples Labour Party (PLP) one of the three parties in the Team Unity Administration, was accompanied by members of the PLP Constituency Number Seven Branch to the funeral service.
“The Constituency will help me do what I can’t do well enough – that is to sing,” Dr Harris told the congregation. “We will do the song ‘Will your anchor hold in the storms of life’.”
Other tributes in song were offered by members of the Estridge Moravian Women’s Fellowship, the family, and St. Kitts Electricity Company (SKELEC) where one the late Mr Bourroughs’ sons is an employee.
Interment was at the parish cemetery, and Prime Minister Harris led the family and community members in laying wreaths on the grave of the departed, Mr Daniel Adolphus Bourroughs, and wished for his soul to rest in eternal peace.
