The foreign affairs staff was accompanied by Ambassador for the Federative Republic of Brazil, His Excellency Douglas Wanderley de Vasconcellos, Chargés d’affaires of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Mr. José Antonio Olavarria, First Secretary, Monica Benilde Liendo, Ambassador for the Republic of China (Taiwan), His Excellency Tom Chih-chiang Lee and Ambassador for the Republic of Cuba, His Excellency Aberlardo Hernandez Ferrer, and his wife, Counsellor Nerys de la Caridad Garcia Merino.Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Kaye Bass, thanked the ambassadors for their time and willingness to partner with the ministry on the tree planting exercise and said that her hope is for the trees to signify continued growth in the relationships with St. Kitts and Nevis and its diplomatic allies.
“Ambassador, thank you for joining with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in this endeavor for Civil Service Community Day and we are pleased that you have agreed to work with the ministry to plant two trees and we hope that these will represent the growth of our relationship,” she said, while addressing the Ambassador for the Federative Republic of Brazil.
Two trees were planted at the Embassy of the Federative Republic of Brazil by Ms. Bass and the ambassador from Brazil; one tree was planted opposite the Basseterre Health Center by Ms. Bass and the Chargés d’affaires of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela; one tree was planted by the Taiwanese ambassador and Ms. Bass at the second roundabout at the top of College Street Ghaut across from the Zion Moravian Church; and another tree was planted at the first roundabout at the top of College Street Ghaut across from the Zion Moravian Church by Ms. Bass and the Cuban ambassador. The Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has decided to adopt the roundabout where it planted the tree.
