PRIME MINISTER HARRIS LAUDS POSITIVE RESPONSES FROM RESIDENTS ON GOVERNMENT’S ROOF REPAIR PROGRAMME

Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 30, 2018 (SKNIS): Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, while speaking on the many successful programmes the government has undertaken, expressed satisfaction that the Government’s Roof Repair Programme has been able to help a significant number of people in the Federation since its inception in April 2018.

“I understand the comfort that a secure roof brought to you who have received it. My heart has been blessed that we have been able to help so many people,” said the Prime Minister, while speaking at his Open Forum on Sunday, October 28.

He said that the positive responses to the programme have been overwhelming.

“You see it on TV, you hear them on the radio, saying how good it is that a Team Unity Government [saw] their needs and looked beyond party and came to assist them because this is a compassionate government,” he added.

Prime Minister Harris made mention of residents from Middle Island, Mansion, Molineux and other areas who have thanked the government for their roofs. He also shared his personal experience about growing up in poverty in Tabernacle.

“I heard Petrona speaking on behalf of the people of Middle island. She now has a secured roof, thanks to the Team Unity Administration. People matter, their lives and conditions matter to me as the Prime Minister, and as a poor man born in Tabernacle who knew poverty at its worst,” he said.

The Government is providing roofing materials and financing the labour costs for the repairs. The work is being carried out by several small contractors within the beneficiary communities.
