PM HARRIS JOINS THE EVANGELISTIC FAITH CHURCH FOR ITS GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY SERVICE
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, November 05, 2018 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – Cabinet Ministers, as well as a host of other specially invited guests joined the regular congregation of the Sandy Point-based Evangelistic Faith Church for a special thanksgiving service in celebration of 50 years of leadership to the community.
The special 50th anniversary church service was held at The Alley, Sandy Point and was attended by Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris; Senior Minister and Minister of Ecclesiastical Affairs, the Honourable Vance Amory and Mrs. Amory; Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Ecclesiastical Affairs, Bishop Ron Collins; Leader of the Opposition, Dr. Denzil Douglas, and several church leaders from around St. Kitts, including Pastor Lincoln Connor of the Antioch Baptist Church in West Basseterre, who was the guest speaker.

Prime Minister Harris paid tribute to Pastor Prisca Hyligar and the leadership of the Evangelistic Faith Church for the years of dedicated spiritual leadership, noting that “50 years is a long journey…and we pray that the church will continue to see progress and to bring progress to the lives of its congregants and also in the lives of people everywhere.”

The Honourable Prime Minister added that while the church celebrates its 50thanniversary, it is important for everyone to consider the role of the church in St. Kitts and Nevis.

“Everywhere people are looking for something, looking for something to hold on to, looking to find virtues and the church must help us and help them to find those virtues. The virtue of love, the virtue of kindness [and] the virtue of good-neighbourliness,” the Prime Minister said.

Dr. Harris said it is these virtues, particularly the virtue of love, which can help shape St. Kitts and Nevis into the type of society we can all be proud of.

“What if we can get more of our young people to love themselves? What if we could get more of our young people to love their country, their communities, their families and to be examples? What a more prosperous country St. Kitts and Nevis would be,” Prime Minister Harris surmised.

Prime Minister Harris added, “We as a country and people give thanks to God for the support and the service that our churches everywhere in St. Kitts and Nevis give. Those churches have been playing an instrumental and effective role in nation building.”

The Evangelistic Faith Church was founded by the late Pastor Miriam Huggins on November 3, 1968.
