This point was made at Saturday’s (November 03, 2018) First Aid and CPR Training held at the Red Cross Headquarters. Acting Director of Youth, Pierre Liburd, urged the trainees to encourage their peers to register their respective groups with the Department of Youth Empowerment at no cost.
“There are a host of different opportunities that are made available to organizations out there working with young people, but in order for us to be able to connect you with the opportunities, you have to be connected to us,” the acting director stated.
The department will host a second round of First Aid and CPR Training for registered group members in the near future. Interested persons are therefore encouraged to register or update their organization’s registration information with the Department of Youth Empowerment, as soon as possible, in order to attend. Some additional benefits of registration include access to technical support and financing, assistance with the duty free-importation process, and networking opportunities.
“If you are hearing this and you have not heard about the youth training and you have been registered [with the department], there is a good chance that your information might have been outdated or removed because we attempted to reach you and couldn’t,” Mr. Liburd stated, explaining that the database of youth groups was recently updated based on attempts by the department to contact all youth group on the list.
Mr. Liburd added that youth groups and organizations are required to update or confirm their registration annually. This should also be done if there are any changes in contact details or to the leadership structure of the group.
