Government auxiliary employee thanks PM Harris and Team Unity Administration
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, November 15, 2018 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — Mr Glenroy ‘Mac’ Woodley is probably the most outspoken Government auxiliary employee (GAE), formerly non-established worker. He has worked in that capacity for the last 20 years, and he is one who does not shy away from speaking up for his fellow 1,250 Government auxiliary employees.
It is therefore not a coincidence that after Prime Minister, and Minister of Finance, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris would have announced at his monthly press conference in the afternoon of Wednesday November 14 that Government auxiliary employees (GAEs) would receive holiday pay in December, Mr Woodley went out looking for the Prime Minister to personally thank him on behalf his fellow Government auxiliary employees.
For a man who would have been disappointed in the past when the former government failed to honour its promise to the then non-established workers, this was a hot issue and he did not want to wait until morning to look for the Prime Minister to thank him.
Luck was on his side. Although he does not live in Phillip’s Village, he was aware that Prime Minister Harris who is celebrating the 25th Anniversary of service as a parliamentarian was to conduct a ‘meet and greet’ walkthrough in the village the same day starting from 5:00 pm.
“Our Prime Minister made a commitment when he was campaigning that when he win we will get back our holiday pay, and up to when he had the last Prime Minister’s Forum in Tabernacle, I reminded him about it and he said December coming up which is not too far away, we will do something, if we say we will do something, we will do it,” noted Mr Woodley who met the Prime Minister in Phillip’s just a few minutes to 7:00 in the evening.
“We will be getting back something at Christmas time that people used to look forward to because some people never save something for Christmas – they were waiting on the holiday pay. So I really have to give the Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris and the Unity Government credit. I really have to give them credit.”
Apart from just being a Government auxiliary worker, Mr Woodley is on a committee formed last year to advise Government on all aspects of an anticipated implementation on legislative, financial, and human resources as it relates to Government auxiliary workers. The committee is chaired by the Chief Personnel Officer of the Government, Mrs Torfrida Rochester.
“I am really happy to see the Prime Minister has lived up to his word – that promise made, promise kept,” said Mr Woodley who later had a chat with Prime Minister Harris at PG’s Bar by the Bridge in Phillip’s. “He is celebrating twenty five years as a parliamentarian. The first incident I had with him, that makes me know he is a man of his word, is when he came to campaign first in 1993 I told him about the state of poor roads in Stone Castle in Tabernacle.”
Mr Woodley further stated: “He said to me when he win, that will be one of the first projects he will undertake. And after he got in government in 1995, today I am driving on concrete roads in Stone Castle. I have no reason to doubt him when he tells me anything. He started out as a man of his word and he still lives up to be a man of his word. I have no problem supporting Dr Timothy Harris.”
