PASTOR LINCOLN CONNOR PRAISES HURRICANE REPAIR PROGRAMME FOR ITS POSITIVE IMPACT ON THE LIVES OF THOUSANDS
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, November 19, 2018 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – The largely successful Hurricane Repair Programme, initiated by the Team Unity Government under the vision and leadership of Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, continues to be praised for the positive impact it has had on the lives of thousands of households.
The latest words of appreciation for the roof repair programme came from Pastor Lincoln Connor of the Antioch Baptist Church, while he delivered his sermon on Sunday (November 18, 2018).
“I like the Government’s roof [repair] programme. I think it’s a wonderful thing, I think it’s a great thing and I think it’s a tremendous thing,” Pastor Connor said, while stressing the importance of giving thanks for one’s blessings.
The fellowship at the Antioch Baptist Church marked a special occasion, as it was the venue of the second church service held in recognition of Prime Minister Harris’ 25th anniversary of serving the people as a Parliamentarian. Sunday also marked the church’s annual Harvest and Thanksgiving Service.
The church leader said he believes the Hurricane Repair Programme was critically needed following the passage of Hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017, and that when he heard of the roof [repair] programme, “I was happy because I was tired of seeing people with tarpaulins on their houses.”
Pastor Connor said he is also pleased with the transparency and openness in how the programme is being administered, as it enables persons across all constituencies and of all persuasions to benefit from the much needed assistance.
He further indicated that such a programme, which has so far assisted over two thousand households in St. Kitts since it commenced in April 2018, must be acknowledged solely for the impact it has had on the standard of living of the beneficiaries.
“One lady said she did not know what it was like to live in a house without putting pots and pans all over, and that was a blessing,” Pastor Connor added.
Through the Hurricane Repair Programme, the Government is providing the roofing materials and financing the labour costs to those affected by the 2017 hurricanes.
