PM Harris: We have come this far because God and His angels are smiling on us
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, November 26, 2018 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — Edgar T. Morris Primary School grounds in Tabernacle were awash with humanity Sunday evening November 25 as hundreds turned out for the highly anticipated ‘To God be the Glory’ gospel concert. It was one of the highlights of activities organised by Constituency Number Seven as it celebrates 25 years of service by Prime Minister Dr the Hon Timothy Harris as a parliamentarian.
Prime Minister Harris, who was first elected to parliament on 29th November 1993 as the Area Representative for St. Christopher Seven (Belle Vue to Ottley’s), was part of the huge crowd and when invited on stage to give remarks he thanked the people of St. Kitts and Nevis for the love and support they have given him in the last 25 years.
Headlined by popular Jamaican performer, Gospel Minister Marion Hall, formerly Lady Saw, a number of accomplished local performers were also on hand to entertain the highly charged crowd that rhythmically responded to the songs rendered. These included Ms Dawn Williams, eight-year old visually impaired Miss Mia Hope Romney, Ms Shirley Williams, Mr Shaquille Gumbs, and Mr Nyquan Nisbett among other local acts from the churches.
“Good evening St. Kitts and Nevis,” said Prime Minister Harris, eliciting a thunderous response. “I want to say thank you to the wonderful people of St. Kitts and Nevis, for your love, for your support. And to you the people of Number Seven who have always stood by me, and with me, thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
According to Dr Harris, the concert presented people the opportunity to give praise and thanks for all the wonderful things that have happened in their lives. He requested them to count their blessings one by one, and surprise themselves with all the wonderful things that God has done for them, and everyone else.
Prime Minister Harris, who gave remarks before Minister Hall came on stage, told the crowd that St. Kitts and Nevis could only have come this far because God and His angels are smiling on them.
“We are a favoured people, and we have to lift up our voices in thankfulness,” said Dr Harris. “Everybody wants to stay here, everybody wants our passports. You are the sons and daughters of this beautiful land, and we want you to feel proud of your country and proud of what we have been able to accomplish, all thanks be to God.”
Saying that he loved the people of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr Harris assured them that he will always love them and confirmed that he has only one passport. “I do not have a passport for Dominica, for Antigua, or for America. So I can truly say of all the lands, be they east or west, I love my St. Kitts and Nevis to death.”
In thanking Minister Marion Hall, the Honourable Prime Minister Harris said that she had delivered a powerful message from her testimony. He presented her with a picture of herself and members of her entourage as well as the Prime Minister that had been taken by photographer Mr Leroy Willett at a press conference held on her arrival at the KayanJet VIP Lounge (formerly Yu Lounge) on Saturday evening.
“You know the Prime Minister is so humble,” said Minister Marion Hall in a post-concert interview. “I just love that he is approachable, touchable, and he is a man of God. I saw him on TV in church today. That is so important to me.”
The Jamaican performer observed that while a lot of people wanted her to come to perform in St. Kitts, it was the Prime Minister who made it possible. She noted that she loved the concert in Tabernacle and commented that the people were so respectable and attentive, but the best part of it was when she made an altar call and scores come forward for blessings, and with that she said “I am just giving God thanks. All glory to Him.”
When asked what songs she performed, her answer was: “I didn’t perform, I ministered. I did ‘Room in my House’, I did ‘Enemy’, ‘I am a Warrior’, and I did some from the new album ‘Overflow’. It was maybe I did like fifteen songs. I love it – Bless God.”
