Prime Minister Harris thanks supporters, offers an olive branch to Labour supporters
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, November 28, 2018 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — A parliamentarian for the last twenty five years, Area Parliamentary Representative for Constituency Number Seven Dr the Hon Timothy Harris is looking back and is thanking all those who supported him in the long political journey that has taken him to the highest elective office in the land, and is today the Head of Government.
Twenty five years is indeed a long time. Prime Minister Harris has welcomed more Douglas Labour Party supporters to come join him in building a St. Kitts and Nevis which we can all be proud. The Prime Minister’s offer of an olive branch comes on the heels of a recent Caribbean Development Research Services (CADRES) poll which showed that the Douglas Labour Party was losing support to Team Unity.
There was not a better place to do it than at the Liberty New Testament Church of God in Molineux at a special church service on Sunday November 25, which was part of celebrations to mark his twenty five years of service as a parliamentarian to the people of Number Seven, and the Federation.
“My 25 years of service have been very good – very challenging, and we could use many adjectives to describe the journey,” said Dr Harris when he gave remarks at the church. “At the end of it I feel incredibly blessed to have had the opportunity to serve.”
Along that 25-year political journey, Dr Harris has attracted massive support in his constituency and indeed over the length and breadth of St. Kitts and Nevis. The recent CADRES poll reveals that Prime Minister Harris is the preferred choice for leadership of this country, and is the most favoured national leader.
The Prime Minister expressed heartfelt gratitude to all of his fans supporters, adding: “Some have been with me from the beginning, and some joined with me thereafter. Each and every one, you are special and I thank you.”
The Bible talks of the 99 sheep and the fact that the shepherd had to leave them to go out to look for the one that was lost, a scripture Prime Minister Harris referred to after he would have said: “And some of who were there, made different choices along the way. I am happy to welcome you back and I will keep coming until others come back.”
The National Political Leader of the Peoples Labour Party which is one of the three parties in the ruling Team Unity Administration, Dr Harris told the congregation that he has never held malice in his heart commenting that the people of Constituency Number Seven have always treated him better than he deserved.
“When you win you can’t afford to be bitter in victory,” advised the Honourable Prime Minister. “When you win you look on to say what will the future hold, and how can I convince those who are not convinced that I am worthy next time to give me the opportunity to serve them, and to serve the country – and so that has been part of my inspiration.”
The sermon was delivered by Senior Pastor Augustus Shelford. Accompanying Dr Harris to church for the special service included the Peoples Labour Party’s Deputy National Political Leader Senator the Hon Akilah Byron-Nisbett, and PLP’s National Secretary Ms Myrtilla Williams and other PLP National and Constituency Branch officials.
The service was also attended by Chair of the Planning Committee for the 25th Anniversary Celebrations Mr Anthony Ross, Permanent Secretaries Mr William Hodge of the Ministry Education and Mrs Delores Stapleton-Harris of the Ministry of health, and Ambassador His Excellency Michael Powell.
Also present were the Resident Ambassador of the Republic of China on Taiwan His Excellency Tom Lee, who was accompanied by Counsellor at the embassy Mr Michael Lin; Resident Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba His Excellency Abelardo Fabio Hernández Ferrer; and Chargé d’affaires, Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela Mr José Antonio Olavarria.
The next ‘Constituency Number Seven celebrating 25 years of service by Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis’, church service will be held on Sunday December 2 at the Pentecostal Church of God in Saddlers. Officiating will be Bishop George Gilfillan, and Pastor Rev. Dr Analdo Bailey.
Two major events on the calendar of events for the 25th Anniversary celebrations coming up this weekend on Saturday 1st December will be the motorcade starting in Belle Vue, making its way to Cayon and returning to Bourryeau where a youth concert will follow on the promenade next to Fraites Bakery.
