Soldier, Constable Convicted Of Rape In Nevis

St Kitts and Nevis (WINN): A defense force soldier and a police constable have been found guilty of rape in a Nevis court.

Royston Browne a former member of the SKNDF and Montana Mathias of the RSCNPF were on December 13 2016, charged with raping a female in Nevis.

According to the initial investigation the men offered to give the victim a ride home after a party on the night of November 3, but instead took her to a lonely beach and had sex with her against her will.

The trial began on Monday with Dr. Henry Browne QC representing both defendants while Crown Counsel Teshaun Vasquez and Lanein Blanchette prosecuted the matter.

The jury went into deliberation on Thursday and returned a 10-2 verdict of guilty.

Matthias and Browne, who had previously been out on bail, have been remanded into custody until their sentencing in April 2019.
