Constituency #7 25th Anniversary Celebrations’ Youth Concert was a runaway success
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, December 4, 2018 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — Activities to mark the 25 years of service by Member of Parliament for Constituency Number Seven, Prime Minister Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, continued on Saturday evening 1stDecember when the newly paved Bourryeau Strip came to life with the holding of a massive youth concert.
On a night the skies were clear, hundreds jam-packed the strip as the cream of youthful local artists headlined by Infamous, Byron Masiah, I-Mark, Nicha B, Vicious Styles, and EaseOut gave their best at the free open-air concert that was organised by the Youths of Constituency Number Seven Peoples Labour Party (PLP), in conjunction with the Planning Committee for the 25th Anniversary Celebrations.
The concert which was hosted by McDamien ‘Cuttoe’ Liburd, and managed by Atnil Pemberton had DJs Terro and Hellfire on duty. Bringing down the curtains for the event that run into Sunday morning (1:00 am) was the sweetest band in the world, Nuvybes aka Sugar Band.
Man of the hour, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, who was first elected to represent St. Christopher Seven in the National Assembly on November 29, 1993, was present at the event and was hugged and kissed by many of the cheering fans, young and old alike as they congratulated him on the celebration of 25 years of service as a parliamentarian.
“We are having a youth concert, and we are joined by very talented young people who hail from this constituency and from outside the constituency, as we continue the celebrations,” said Prime Minister Harris. “This is a free concert, so we are giving back to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis throughout this period, as we join them and they join us in celebrating the twenty five years of my public service so far.”
A nine-member team of Peoples Labour Party (PLP) youths from Constituency Number Seven were behind the success of the event. According to their spokesperson, Mr Evander O’Flaherty, the group met and came up with the line-up of the artists who were going to perform, selected on their appeal to the youth. The list was handed over to the Chairman of the PLP Constituency Number Seven Executive Branch Mr Lenworth Harris.
“Hosting this highly successful event was a labour of love by we, the youths of Constituency Numbers Seven as we honour our esteemed Parliamentarian and Prime Minister of this country Dr the Hon Timothy Harris,” said Mr O’Flaherty. “Some of us were not even born when he was elected to parliament by our parents 25 years ago. He was there for our parents and he is here for us. There was not a better way of honouring the sterling service he has given not only to the constituency but to the country.”
After the event and the line-up of artists would have been given the green light at the branch level, it was left to the youths to make the final arrangements, with Mr O’Flaherty working alongside Ms Trevlyn Stapleton to ensure that everything ran smoothly. The event came off without a hitch and that by itself has set a very high standard that will have to be equalled when such events are held in the future.
“The concert was well attended, as it was a spill-over from the motorcade which was a very huge event,” said Mr O’Flaherty. “The concert was very well attended by not only the youth but a lot of middle-aged and older persons came out in their numbers as well, but the headline attendance was the youth as was our goal. The entire local community came out and also from our neighbouring communities like Saddlers, St. Paul’s, Cayon and from as far as Basseterre.”
