ST. KITTS AND NEVIS SETS ITS SIGHTS ON ACHIEVING THE 90-90-90 HIV TARGETS BY 2020
Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 05, 2018 (SKNIS): The Ministry of Health encourages citizens and residents to play their part in assisting St. Kitts and Nevis to achieve the 90-90-90 universal target by getting tested to know their HIV status.
The UNAIDS’ 90-90-90 initiative states that, by 2020, 90 percent of all people living with HIV will know their status, 90 percent of all people with diagnosed HIV infection will receive sustained antiretroviral therapy and 90 percent of all people receiving antiretroviral therapy will have viral suppression.
“This indeed is a tall order and cannot happen without the full cooperation of the public. So your partnership in this leadership promotional forum is critical to garner that increased awareness for HIV testing,” said Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Delores Stapleton- Harris, while speaking at the December 05 Leader Testing Press Conference held at the Solid Waste Management Corporation’s Conference Room.
Mrs. Stapleton- Harris said that the 90-90-90 universal targets “call for an increase in HIV testing” and used the occasion to encourage the general public to utilize the National Testing Day on December 07 to get tested at the Independence Square.
She noted that the Ministry of Health remains committed to the continued promotion of the general health of the people of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, adding that a strong focus is placed on sexual health.
