Ade’s Place trainees impress Wesleyan Holiness Church leadership and membership
Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 8, 2018 (S.T.E.P.) — Superintendent of the Wesleyan Holiness Church St. Kitts, Nevis and Saba District, Rev Spencer Watts, is thanking God for directors and instructors at the Greenlands-based Ade’s Place for the high quality work being produced by trainees at the institution.
Observing that the Wesleyan Holiness Church has assisted Ade’s Place in the past, Rev Watts is also praising the government for supporting the institution especially after he learnt that all the trainees are sponsored through the Skills Training Empowerment Programme (STEP), a government agency under the Office of the Prime Minister.
The Wesleyan Holiness Church District Superintendent along with by Pastor Rev Sylvester Herbert of the Basseterre and Conaree Wesleyan Holiness Churches and a contingent of church members were among the guests at the opening of the two-day Ade’s Place Open House on Wednesday December 5.
“I am happy to be here at the Open House at Ade’s Place,” said Rev Watts. “It was a very good display of singing and talent and we thank God for the persons that are here – the instructors that did a wonderful job in preparing the students.”
Rev Watts in particular commented on a craft, a flag of St. Kitts and Nevis on a board with the words ‘Wesleyan Holiness Church’ on it. The craft, which was made by trainees at Ade’s Place under the supervision of instructor Mrs Ynola Johnson, was given to the church as a gift.
“That (craft) was done and it was given to the Wesleyan Holiness Church as a gift,” observed Rev Watts. “It is artwork of nails and strings and it is done in a wonderful way – a superb job and I understand that something like that would take maybe about a month or six weeks. You can tell the amount of work effort and skill that was placed in it.”
Open House at Ade’s Place allows the trainees and their instructors to display to the public some of the work that they do. Members of the public usually buy the work of art, and last year the former Resident Ambassador of the Republic of China on Taiwan His Excellency George Gow Wei Chiou bought a similar artwork also with the flag of St. Kitts and Nevis.
The current Resident Ambassador of the Republic of China on Taiwan His Excellency Tom Lee made an order of a similar craft, but with the flag of Taiwan on it. Instructor Mrs Ynola Johnson and the trainees have started working on it, and it should be presented to the ambassador shortly.
“We really celebrate with them because you can see they can do a lot of things, and we must do all that we can to help to harness the skills and the abilities and always be there for them, and encourage them,” said Rev Watts. “We would continue to pray for them and assist them in whatever way. As a church we have assisted them and they have presented this as a gift to us and we give God thanks for that.”
Chairperson of the day’s proceedings was Ade’s Place Founding Director, Dr Robertine Chaderton, and giving remarks was Minister of State for Health, Community Development, Gender Affairs and Social Services, Senator the Hon Wendy Phipps. Also present included His Excellency Tom Lee, resident Ambassador of the Republic of China on Taiwan; and Mr William Santos, Vice Counsellor, Embassy of Brazil.
“It is a good thing to equip people with certain skills so that they can help themselves,” said District Superintendent Rev Watts. “The idea is to get them involved in this training and they would be able to someday be on their own to do things to make a living out of the skills that they would have gained, and so it is a good thing that the Government is doing.”
