Withdraw Motion of No Confidence: Pastor Lincoln Hazell to Leader of Opposition

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, December 27, 2018 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — Before the ill-fated Motion of No Confidence (MONC) filed by the Leader of the Opposition in the Dr the Hon Timothy Harris-led Team Unity Government was heard in the National Assembly on Monday December 24, the mover had graciously been offered a chance to withdraw it.

“We pray for the proceedings today,” said Pastor Lincoln Hazell. “I pray that the love of Christ will constrain those who will be speaking today. Let the spirit of Christmas reign in this parliament, and instead of hatred let there be love.”

He then made a plea: “I pray that the mover of the Vote of No Confidence may find it fit to withdraw the motion and let the Prince of Peace reign in our hearts as our nation celebrates the birth of Christ.”

Leader of Opposition, the Rt Hon Dr Denzil Douglas, filed on Tuesday December 11 a Motion of No Confidence (MONC) in the government of Prime Minister Dr the Hon Timothy Harris. Speaker of the National Assembly the Hon Michael Perkins, wanting to have it disposed swiftly in accordance with procedures of the House, scheduled for it to be heard on Monday December 24.

For a country whose Constitution spells out clearly that it is a ‘nation under God’ proceedings of the House on the day the motion was to be heard started with prayers, and doing the honours was Pastor Lincoln Hazell of the Apostolic Faith Mission Church.

In his God-given wisdom, Pastor Hazell exalted Federation’s past and present leaders starting with the first National Hero, the late Rt Excellent Sir Robert Llewelyn Bradshaw and ending with current Prime Minister, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris. The Godly man he is, Pastor Hazell heaped praise and called out the names of the leaders including Dr Denzil Douglas who he said led the nation with distinction and built it to be the envy of the world.

“We thank you for our present Prime Minister (Dr the Hon Timothy Harris) who has taken up the mantle and has even taken this country into higher heights,” added Pastor Hazell. “We thank you for all he is doing to make the smallest nation a shining light to the rest of the world, with all our citizens enjoying the fruits of his labour.”

Pastor Hazell further added: “We thank you for many accomplishments that we are enjoying, and we thank you for the planned programmes of further development. We know that with Christ in the vessel, we will smile and the storm. We thank you for giving rain without floods. We thank you for keeping this nation in your hand.”

With all the accolades properly given to all the leaders, Pastor Lincoln Hazell looked at the plight of the citizens and residents of the country, noting that there was so much for them to celebrate during the Christmas season. He therefore prayed that the mover of the Vote of No Confidence may find it fit to withdraw the motion and let the Prince of Peace reign in people’s hearts as the nation celebrated the birth of Christ.

Quoting from Scriptures, Philippians 4:8, Pastor Hazell ended by saying: “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things (KJV). In Jesus’ Name – Amen.”

At the end of a heated of debate, the Motion of No Confidence in the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis brought by the Leader of the Opposition was dispensed a crushing defeat. The failure of the MONC came on the heels of the 2019 Budget, which was overwhelmingly passed on December 18 as a Vote of Confidence in the Government.
