Team Unity’s Anniversary church service in Nevis: PM Harris calls for unity
CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS, February 19, 2019 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — Prime Minister Dr the Hon Timothy Harris on Sunday February 17 led a large delegation, including members of the Federal Cabinet, from St. Kitts to sister island Nevis where they attended the first of two church services on Team Unity Administration’s 4th Anniversary Calendar of Activities.
The service, held at the St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Charlestown, was attended by members of the Nevis Island Administration led by Premier the Hon Mark Brantley, who is also the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs and Aviation, and Federation’s first Prime Minister and only living National Hero the Right Hon and Right Excellent Sir Kennedy Simmonds who had travelled from St. Kitts.
“We are here of course on account of our celebratory activities marking the fourth anniversary of the Team Unity Government and I want to commend the people of St. Kitts and Nevis because they had a choice on the 16th of February 2015 and they chose Team Unity Government,” Prime Minister Harris told the congregation as he delivered remarks in church.
“We have come to say thank you,” added the Prime Minister. “We recognise as an administration we have achieved quite a lot and for that we credit you, and for all the wonderful things that have been done in the name of the people, we say to God be the glory.”
In his message, Prime Minister Harris talked of the virtues of unity and called for unity in all sectors of life including in churches, homes and communities.
“Beyond party politics must be we as a people coming together again with hope; with great expectations that within us we can make it work for St. Kitts and Nevis,” said Dr Harris. “Within us we can create a better day. Within us we recognise there will be moments of weeping in nation building but the weeping endures for a night, but something much better comes in the morning and it is joy.”
Advising that the present is almost the past, Prime Minister Harris told the congregation that it is only the future the people of St. Kitts and Nevis have to consecrate. He talked of a good future, a nice future, and a loving future of service and he applauded the St. Paul’s Anglican Church’s theme for 2019-2020 ‘Committing ourselves totally to loving service to God and society’.
“This is what we really want,” said the Prime Minister. “If every child will get up each day, each morning, and commit to that kind of loving service, think of the great potential of the island of Nevis, the island of St. Kitts and this Federation.”
Premier of Nevis, the Hon Mark Brantley, read the Epistle from 1 Corinthians 15: 12-20, while the message was delivered by Father Christopher Archibald. Members of the Federal Cabinet at the service were the Hon Eugene Hamilton, the Hon Ian Patches Liburd, and the Hon Vincent Byron who had travelled from St. Kitts, and Senior Minister the Hon Vance Amory.
Ministers of the Nevis Island Assembly present were Deputy Premier the Hon Alexis Jeffers, the Hon Eric Evelyn, the Hon Spencer Brand, and the Hon Hazel Brandy Williams. Others present were Speaker of the National Assembly the Hon Michael Perkins, Deputy Speaker the Hon Akilah Byron-Nisbett, and President of the Nevis Island Assembly the Hon Farrel Smithen.
Also present at the service included Federal Cabinet Secretary Mrs Josephine Huggins, Nevis Island Administration Cabinet Secretary Mr Steadmond Tross, Federal Permanent Secretaries Mr Osbert DeSuza and Mrs Delores Stapleton-Harris, Ambassador Michael Powell, and former Federal Junior Minister Mr Richard Caines among others.
Activities to mark Team Unity Administration’s Fourth Anniversary are being held under the theme ‘TEAM UNITY: Making Dreams a Reality in Every Community!!!’, and the second church service in the calendar of activities will be held on Sunday February 24 at the Zion Moravian Church in Basseterre.
