EXCITEMENT BUILDS AHEAD OF THE PUBLIC SESSION OF PLP’S NATIONAL CONVENTION THIS SATURDAY, MARCH 16

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, March 14, 2019 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis and Political Leader of the People’s Labour Party (PLP), Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, visited the Patsy Allers Playing Field earlier today (Thursday, March 14) where he got a sense of the work being done to have everything in place for the staging of the massive public session of the PLP’s third annual National Convention on Saturday, March 16.

A decision was made by the party’s executive to hold this year’s convention in two separate sessions. The private session for the party delegates was held on Wednesday, March 14 at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort.

Prime Minister Harris was accompanied on his visit by the Deputy National Leader of the PLP, Senator the Honourable Akilah Byron-Nisbett and PLP advisor, Dr. Sharon Gopaul-McNicol.

The prime minister’s delegation was assured that preparatory work is on pace and all will be ready for the staging of what is expected to be a largely attended public session.

Senator Byron-Nisbett said the party is coming off a very exciting and successful private session, and believes that level of excitement, particularly among the young people, will certainly carry over into Saturday’s event at the Patsy Allers Playing Field.

“We have seen an increase in the number of young people who have shown interest in the party itself. They want to be a part of this movement that is showing so much power and empowerment to all these young people within St. Kitts and Nevis, and so that alone would just bring a certain level of energy on Saturday of persons coming out in support of PLP and PLP in Unity,” the Senator stated.

The PLP Deputy Political Leader said they are expecting a diverse audience at Saturday’s public session, including leadership of the People’s Action Movement (PAM) and the Nevis-based Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM), which are the two other parties that came together along with the PLP to form the Team Unity Government.

Senator Byron-Nisbett added that the coming together of members of the three political parties is a true representation of unity that now exists throughout the entire Federation.

“On Saturday we are going to see an energy and a coming together of not just a party but a coalition showing a strong movement towards the continued building of our Federation at a level that we’ve never seen before – the removal of all the divisiveness and just the continued coming together of the people which is what PLP continues to push and encourage,” she said.

The public session of the People’s Labour Party’s third annual National Convention commences at 4pm. It will be held under the theme, “Improving our communities with PLP in Unity.”
