At the Contract Signing ceremony on Thursday, March 14, 2019, in Cayon, Prime Minister Harris recalled a comment made where Martell Lee, Managing Director of ADeB Consultants Limited out of Jamaica, “spoke well about the way in which we went about in a systematic, organized and fair way to select the local contractors.”The contractors are Boonie’s Construction Company Ltd; Allie’s Construction; Anthony Huggins & Sons; I&B Limited (Trevor Isaac); John Boy Construction (Dwight Berry); Stephen’s Construction (Stanford Stephens), and T&G Construction (Troy Flanders).
Prime Minister Harris used the occasion to congratulate the contractors and expressed his delight in the selection process.
“Look how far we have come when your government made sure that in the development of the country our sons and daughters are not left behind. When the country moves forward, the people must move with it and this is what we are doing in an organized way,” said the prime minister.
Phase 2 covers the areas between Cayon and Challengers travelling eastwards and is expected to begin by the end of March. Construction activity will initially begin in Cabbage Tree and Wash Ghaut in Cayon, as well as in Ottleys, Bourryeau, Molineaux, Christ Church, Saddlers, Mansion, Tabernacle and Belle Vue.
Under Phase 1, the resurfacing of the stretch of road between Conaree and Keys, as well as Camps and Challengers, was done by Surrey Paving and Aggregate Co. Ltd. Local contractors such as Allie’s Construction, B & B Backhoe and Trucking Services, Boonie’s Construction, O’Loughlin Construction, and Huggins and Son Construction, also undertook various work that resulted in the construction of a proper drainage system on the eastern side of St. Kitts in the vicinity of CONTEC, the widening of the main road, as well as the building of drains, retention walls and sidewalks at various points.
